I think her writing is fine, so I gave 3 out of 5 stars. It seemed like it could have been a really great book. I was really let down by this book. I didn't enjoy the characters or the story line much at all. It was just tolerable.
Her pursuit of his love drastically changes her life forever.Good in Bed reminds me so much of He's Just Not That Into You - the damsel in distress determined to create a Prince Charming out of a useless frog. In his syndicated column, "Good in Bed," he publicly reveals sentiments and intimate details about his expired relationship with Candace - the way he really feels about her weight, her lack of confidence and her bouts of cold heartedness. For me, Candace was a mirror reflecting my sometimes desperate and irrational behavior. It is even harder when your ex is a journalist for an enormously popular magazine and conspires to write a monthly column inspired by your breakup.Such is the case of Candace Shapiro, a twenty- something year old woman who is dissatisfied with her weight, her family, and her love life. These are the traits that sustain her - and redeem her. Nevertheless, Candace can't let go of Bruce.
But there are also great character traits reflected from Candace: spunk, cleverness, generosity and strength. Breaking up is hard to do. Her boyfriend, Bruce, has ended their three year relationship while her mother is involved with a disappointing lover; all of this is set against the backdrop of Candace seeking acceptance into a new clinical study weight loss program.Bruce adds salt to the wound. I can see pieces of me in Candace; I believe most women can if they are honest with themselves.

It may surprise you.11/18/09 This book is about Cannie, a writer for a newspaper and how being dumped through a national magazine shaped her life. It is a novel about an every day woman who was dealt some bad cards in life and how she managed to turn them around when a near tragedy happened in her life.
This book dives into several issues such as weight, being a woman, motherhood and more. It is all about the attitude. This one really surprised me at how insightful it was to be a larger woman and having her "failures" published in a national publication. This is not just your ordinary beach read but it is a fun read as well as introspective one. That same boyfriend who never did anything about Cannie's pregnancy. I had read another one of Weiner's books and was very disappointed but not this time.
This woman may have taken a break from her boyfriend but to have that said boyfriend publicizing their romantic failures in a national magazine. what a jerk in the fullest sense of the word. It is not heavy but surprisingly insightful throughout the entire novel. If you're looking for something a bit meatier than a lot of contemporary chick lit where it's so predictable, then I suggest this novel. This book surprised me. he really brings the meaning of low to a new level.
It is not a "Woe is Me" novel nor is it a novel where desperation reigns.
Geesh, makes me feel I could write and sell a book. I read this out of boredom and the need to read a light book. As others have said, whining main character. (it didn't) How on earth did anyone get this published. The book reads like something written by a 14 year old girl, complete with silly movie-star friendships, pages and pages of ruminating about an ex-boyfriend, an unexplained cruel father. Completely implausible storyline. Somehow I got through it, I think only to see if it got any better.
The character doesn't grow remaining the same self-loathing person she was as a teenager dependent on men to make her feel as though she has worth. Other than the very occasional giggle, the book was just awful. The plot is artificially driven and completely unrealistic. She remains childish and irrational right through the final pages of the book.I could write more, but I'm sad that I even gave it this much attention already.
